Camp ‘In became “The Gathering” as wet weather was forecast.

We began on Friday night with our family BBQ where we were able to meet and get to know our newest school families and reacquaint ourselves after a long year of Covid separation.

We played family games where we found out that fireflies are preferred over unicorns and that 5 seconds is not a very long time to provide three answers. We also learned that when you cheer loudly enough, you may end up with bonus points.

Saturday started with a BIG breakfast expertly cooked by Mr Anway. Then it was onto more community building activities. Newspaper costumes became fashionable and were all the rage. And the scavenger hunt had teams racing all over the school site looking for clues.

Morning tea was accompanied by coffee and hot chocolate supplied by our friends with The Adrenaline Van. So good!

Following a healthy lunch we took both buses to Toowoon Bay for a swim and play in the sand. Sadly the blue bottles arrived first so we had to think about swimming or not. Thankfully Mrs Anway volunteered to be buried in sand and this took quite a while to dig a space large enough, then cover her all over with sand. (I think that the beach was carried home by her swimmers!)

Hot dogs appeared for dinner. Then the main event began. The braziers came out and were lit ready for ‘smores. Delicious indeed! The children went into the room for their movie while the adults gathered around for the annual “Articulate” match up. (Did you know that giving a clue referring to someone being ‘hungry’ was not allowed for the answer HUNGARY?) Who would have thought that?

While we all left for our comfy and dry beds, the best part of Camp ‘In was watching our families gather and enjoy their time being together. Building those relationships which will bring joy and blessing to their children as they then go on to learn together at school.
